PSC 1110

NUCLEAR PROJECTILES

Overview

The Product Service Code (PSC) system is a standardized taxonomy the U.S. federal government uses to classify the products and services it buys. PSCs support procurement reporting and analytics by indicating what was purchased in award data; the taxonomy is maintained in the official PSC Manual and used for recording contract actions in FPDS. 1

PSC 1110 — Nuclear Projectiles — covers nuclear weapons designed to be fired from a recoilless rifle, gun, or howitzer (that is, not self-propelled). This class also covers projectile-unique structural components such as ogive sections, body sections, and bases that are not otherwise classifiable. It sits within Group 11 (Nuclear Ordnance) alongside related nuclear ordnance classes. 1

What this PSC covers

  • Nuclear weapons configured as projectiles fired from recoilless rifles, guns, or howitzers; not designed to be self-propelled. 1
  • Projectile-peculiar structural elements, including ogive sections, body sections, and bases when not classifiable elsewhere. 1
  • Training and practice ballistic items, simulators, and mockups integral to nuclear ordnance classes when not otherwise specifically classified. 1
  • Nuclear projectiles as complete items of supply issued for use with appropriate artillery-type delivery systems. 1
  • Excludes self-propelled items such as missiles and rockets, which fall outside projectile definitions. 1
  • Excludes general-purpose nose cones, case sections, or center sections designed to carry non-nuclear payloads or for aerodynamic configuration of missiles/rockets. 1
  • Excludes items specifically classifiable in other PSCs (e.g., fuzing and firing devices). See PSC 1135. 1

Manual inclusions and exclusions (scope notes)

  • Included: Nuclear weapons configured as projectiles; related projectile-unique sections and bases not otherwise classifiable. 1
  • Included: Training/practice nuclear ordnance items and specially designed simulators/mockups integral to covered classes. 1
  • Excluded: Rocket-propelled or self-propelled weapons (missiles/rockets) and their general aerodynamic structures if not exclusively nuclear-use. 1
  • Excluded: Items properly classifiable in other PSCs (e.g., fuzing/firing devices in PSC 1135). 1

Data reporting context

PSC codes indicate the predominant product or service bought on a contract action and are entered in FPDS as data element 8A. The PSC Manual provides the governing definitions and guidance for selecting the appropriate code; environmental attribute reporting is separate and does not change the PSC selection. 1

Frequently asked questions

  • What exactly is PSC 1110?

    • PSC 1110 identifies nuclear weapons designed to be fired from guns, howitzers, or recoilless rifles, and not self-propelled. It also covers projectile-unique components like ogive and body sections when not classifiable elsewhere. 1
  • Does PSC 1110 include fuzes or firing sets?

    • No. Fuzing and firing devices for nuclear ordnance are classified under PSC 1135. PSC 1110 covers the projectile and its peculiar structural components, not these devices. 1
  • Are there officially published NAICS crosswalks for PSC 1110?

    • Not specified by official sources. 2
  • Which agencies buy under PSC 1110?

    • Not specified by official sources. 2
  • Where can the authoritative definition of PSC 1110 be found?
